Stepping Out of Time
In the article Layers of Time: Pandemic Time Distortion, author Stowe Boyd writes about the transformative possibilities in stepping outside of our linear, horizontal experience of time (wake up, go to work, take break, go back to work, go home, start again) and leaning into a vertical experience of time:
“The positive sensation of being transported out of the everyday hustle — while walking in the shade at a park, meditating, moved by great music, gaining a sense of fullness when operating in a flow state, or even while sorting socks — can be deeply spiritual and transcendent. And later, when we come down to Earth, we may feel renewed, reborn even, more than just rested.”
On October 13th, 2023, people working in non-profit data & tech spaces are invited to experience time vertically at the Make Tech Work For You Learn, Use, Love Gathering. During this full-day experience, we will learn and practice mindfulness and meditative practices, we will put those practices into use to experience deep work for our actual jobs, and we will nurture our relationships with data & technology through the framework of continuous learning by building professional development plans for ourselves, our teams, and even our organizations.
The Learn, Use, Love Gathering will take place on Roosevelt Island in New York City at The Sanctuary - a beautiful spot near the river to experience technology and nature in the same day. You can see a full schedule with additional information on our website (still under construction, but open for you to check out).
Let’s get together to be mindful, do focused work, and celebrate continuous learning in nonprofit data & technology.
