About Make Tech Work For You (MTWFY)

Hey there, Change-Makers!

Make Tech Work For You is on a quest to bring continuous learning and capacity building for data & technology to all nonprofit organizations and mission-driven individuals like you. We know that data and technology mean nothing without the humans powering them.

We focus on coaching and professional development to build capacity internally on your teams to use these tools for their work. Add in some technology development and implementation from your team and we are your IT department, coach, and biggest cheerleader all rolled into one! We want you to not only get data & tech but to rock it, making it your organization’s  superpower in achieving your missions.

Our Dream is Big and Bold:

A world where every mission-driven organization has their tech game on point, and every individual has the skills and confidence to use data and tech as essential tools in their work.

Why Roll With Us?

  • Never-Ending Learning Party: Technology is always throwing a new dance move, and we're here to teach you the steps. Our workshops, resources, courses, coaching, and even how we build technology is all focused on sharing skills and knowledge.

  • All About YOU: We are people-first. Your missions, dreams, late-night "What if?" thoughts matter to us. We dive into your world and integrate deeply into your organization.

  • On A Mission, Like You: We are all nonprofits, all the time. We’ve worked with organizations that are closing the education gap, enacting restorative justice, saving the environment, providing youth development through sports, helping kids to and through college, fighting for reproductive rights, and more.

  • We don’t do it alone: You know that no nonprofit can work in isolation, and we understand that deeply. We partner and collaborate with other nonprofits, consultants, and learning organizations to learn, use, and love our technology - just like we want you to do.

About the Founder

Emily Hicks-Rotella has over a decade of experience working with organizations of all shapes and sizes to support their data and technology culture and strategy. As part of this work, Emily supports staff members to learn, use, and love their data and technology, adds capacity to teams and organizations that need additional technical knowledge and skill, and uses a uniquely human and non-technical approach to develop and support a culture that sets up staff and organizations for success using data and technology for their missions and impact. Emily lives in New York with their wife and three young children, and when they aren't being a total data and tech nerd, they are either singing outside, snowboarding, skateboarding, reading, or getting more tattoos.
