Radical Optimism

It is truly amazing and inspiring to witness the positive actions and reactions that have been sprouting up while we all go through a bootcamp in handling and managing change. While there is a lot of anxiety and stress going around, there is also a lot of strength and power.

I have been practicing what I like to refer to as Radical Optimism - acknowledging the sobering reality and struggle that people are experiencing, but looking short- and long-term for the most positive and optimistic outcomes. It also means working with empathy for the hardships myself and others are experiencing at this time, but allowing myself to notice the positive things that are happening and how we will learn and grow during this time.

Lucky for me I guess is that Radical Optimism is what I have been using for years on my own journey and with my clients to learn, use, and love technology for mission-driven, impactful work. There’s lots of ways to get discouraged when using technology. Today we tried to do a Zoom morning meeting with fifteen 3- and 4-year olds for my daughter’s pre-school class, and believe me the “mute” situation was more than a little crazy. And now I’m sure many of you are scrambling to set up new data and systems and manage your old ones as well.

What you can expect from me going forward

  1. A limited and focused view of resources available to help you with data & technology at this time (because I’m overwhelmed by the amount of resources being thrown around, and I don’t want to add to that overwhelm)

    1. Example: An article on the best practices for using Slack. Seriously, use Slack well. Need help using it well? Let’s chat

  2. A ton of more totally free webinars and workshops on data and technology for mission-driven organizations

    1. Example: Every day at 12pm EST the Harvest Development Group is presenting 30-min lunch & learns with a long list of experts on different topics important for non-profits during this time. I’ll be speaking on March 30th about how to use data & technology to help organize and manage work with all the changes happening around us.

  3. More availability for 30-min consultations on ANY topic you have right now related to using data & technology for yourself or your organization - including digital fundraising, managing your inbox, collaboration tools, remote working, and more.

And of course, whatever infusion of Radical Optimism you need in your life right now.

  • How are you doing?

  • What are you thinking about most?

  • Where do you need support?

Like a lot of folx right now I’m looking to connect and to help. Let me know what you need!

Peace,

Emily
