Don’t Fight The Future

Technology shouldn’t be used to fight the future. Technology move us forward towards the future.

So when I see that nonprofits are putting their efforts into making technology tools to “catch” kids using ChatGPT for their papers, I just think that the time and effort could have been spent instead helping teachers incorporate ChatGPT into their classrooms.

Why do we need kids to memorize facts for a test - why shouldn’t they be allowed to look it up on the internet?

Why do employers try to test candidates on their skills with timed exercises that make it difficult to look on the internet and ask for help? That’s what we do in the real-world work situations.

Teach kids the reasons not to cheat, don’t just punish them for it. Teach people in jobs to ask for help and be collaborative, not that they need to know how to do everything all by themselves with inhuman speed.

Use technology to propel us forward towards a kinder future, not to fight against it.
